Spring Soul Cleaning: How to Clear Space for New Growth
Spring is here, and that means it's time for Spring cleaning. I'm totally in favor of physically cleaning your home of all the crap you don't use or pay attention to anymore (I tend to hang on to shit for way too long), but you should also remember to spiritually clear the space you exist in to make room for new personal growth. While you can do this any way you feel like, I'm going to give you a few of my favorite ways to clear space.
Get some plants. If you already have plants, get some more. Why not? You can never have too many plants. I recently posted about how I can't seem to keep my plants alive, but I'm not giving up! Plants connect you to nature, and that connection brings the spirit of Spring straight to you. As your plants grow, remember that you are growing, too. And if your plants die, remember that new life cannot begin without death. Also talk to someone at Home Depot about why the hell your plants keep dying.
Take a bath. No, I'm not admonishing you for not bathing. I'm sure you're quite hygienic. What I mean is that baths can be incredibly restorative not only physically, but mentally and spiritually as well. Add some bath salts or oils, or if you really want to get into the Spring spirit, toss in some herbs and florals. Dandelion, jasmine, rose petals, orange blossoms, rosemary, mint, and lavender are all great options.
Give yourself a manicure. This may seem trivial, but go with me on this one. Turn the manicure into an empowering ritual. Turn on your favorite playlist, sit in a sunny spot, and make every move intentional. Trim your cuticles, shape your nails, and pick a polish that embodies Spring (my go-to right now is Revlon's Spanish Moss). Don't put yourself on autopilot or look at it like a beauty obligation. Do it because you feel like it and enjoy it. When you look at that color, remember the ritual that went with it and let that energy infuse you. Besides, nothing makes you feel more powerful than a badass set of claws.
Clean your house. Who says you can't multitask? Like with the manicure, turn your cleaning obligation into a meditative ritual. Come up with a mantra to chat while you clean, or just infuse the energy of how you want to grow into the cleaning process. When you're done, burn some sage or palo santo. You can even add some salt to your smudging for a little extra purification. You might be surprised by how much happier, lighter, and more clear-headed you feel after a good dose of manual labor and the resulting clean slate that is now your home.
Like I said before, these are just a few of the things you can do to clear your spirit Spring's growth. They're some of my favorites, though. What are your Spring cleaning rituals?
