Mother Kombucha Brings a Local Touch to Everyone's Favorite Probiotic Beverage
I've recently become obsessed with Mother Kombucha. I've been a kombucha drinker for some time now, and when I saw this new brand on the shelf, I had to try it. I went with the blue rose flavor, because honestly if something has hibiscus in it I'm down, and it was freaking delicious.
Now in case you don't know, kombucha is a living, probiotic tea that's brewed by combining tea and sugar with a fermenting culture called a “mother” or SCOBY (Symbiotic Culture Of Bacteria and Yeast). Not only is it delicious, it also has a low sugar content and the perfect combination of anti-oxidants, probiotics and amino acids. And Mother Kombucha produces this wonderful drink right here in the Tampa Bay Area in St. Pete.
One of the first things I noticed when I tried Mother Kombucha was the fact that it wasn’t quite as potent as some other kombuchas. This is probably because of the blend of tea it uses—a varied blend of black and green teas, including assam, gunpowder green, oolong and jasmine. These teas add a whole other level of flavor to the kombucha, which is great if you’re trying kombucha for the first time. A lot of people find the taste too strong at first, but the teas Mother Kombucha uses are so tasty it’s hard not to love it.
Mother Kombucha’s flavors include Sunshine City, Thai Temple, Lavender Mojito, Blue Rose, Jasmine Flower and Ginger Lemonade. I mean come on, how do you not want to try it with names like that? Not only does the kombucha taste and sound great, but it’s made with only organic, fair trade ingredients.
Mother Kombucha’s mission is to “brew small batch living kombucha hand crafted from fair trade organic teas, tisanes and natural flavors. Rich with probiotics, beneficial amino acids and antioxidants—our kombuchas make a delicious alternative to sugary sodas and juices. And because we believe that things that are good for you should also taste great—we create flavors that enhance and build upon the natural acidity and tartness of kombucha rather than trying to hide it. The result is crisp, effervescent and invigorating. Available throughout the Tampa Bay area and beyond. Embrace the Ferment!”
Mother Kombucha is only on sale in Tampa Bay and the surrounding areas, so unfortunately you can’t get it if you don’t live here. More for me! If you are in or around Tampa Bay, though, check out Mother Kombucha’s website to see where you can try these amazing drinks for yourself, and let me know what you think!
