In Which My Family Gathers for Birthday Celebrations
The other day my family (me, my brother, his girlfriend, my dad, my uncle, my cousin, my two aunts, and my grandma) got together for a birthday dinner. My aunt, uncle, cousin, and I all have birthdays relatively close to each other, so we just had one big dinner for all of us. We had home-cooked food and good wine, watched a couple March Madness games, and opened cards and presents. We all brought our dogs, so the five of them ran amok the whole time. We napped after stuffing ourselves, and we snuggled under blankets and gave my aunt and uncle a hard time about how freezing cold they keep their house.
It was a bit gloomy outside as dark clouds rolled in and the temperature dropped, but inside we laughed and celebrated and loved like only our family can. I know not everyone is as close to their family as I am to mine, so I never take that for granted. They are the most important people in my life, and I will love them forever.
Above, you can see my aunt's tension caused the ridiculously close Duke game. She went to Duke, and she lives Duke basketball. This was not an easy game for her. Below, my dad is smothered by our 65-pound lapdog. Mattie has no idea she's way too big for this.
My aunt and uncle live on the beach, so we usually hang out on the balcony. It wasn't too cold out, but the wind coming off the Gulf was enough to keep us inside. I had to step out for a minute, though, to get a photo of how beautifully gloomy it was outside.
