Don't Be Afraid to Be Alone
People often confuse the words lonely and alone. No one wants to be lonely. We all want to connect with other people. It's human nature. I love, however, being alone. It's time I have to myself to relax and recharge, and we all need that every now and then.
I'm an introvert, so I crave time alone, but so many people fear it. They think being alone means they're lonely. It doesn't. Come on people, dictionaries are on your phones now. The revelation that being alone does not have to be a bad thing is literally at your fingertips.
When I need time alone I read or write or, most commonly, watch Netflix for hours. I usually drink some tea, possibly more than one cup. Food is also normally involved. The point is, when I'm alone I feel like I can finally breathe and just be. I don't think about difficult things and I put away any stress I've been feeling, even if it's just for a couple hours. After some time alone, though, I feel great. I feel ready to be around people again or tackle a project I've been working on or make a decision that's been stressing me out.
Sometimes I feel like I have to be going at a hundred percent twenty-four hours a day, and most people I know are in the same boat. We don't have to push ourselves so hard, though, and taking a break every now and then helps us recharge and keep going instead of burning out.
Being alone is not a bad thing. It's an incredible thing. It's a time to say, I'm going to forget everything going on in my life right now and eat a bar of chocolate while binge-watching that show everyone's been talking about.
So what do you all think of being alone? Do you love it, or is it something you've never embraced before?
