Deck Spotlight: The Efflorescent Tarot

Deck Spotlight: The Efflorescent Tarot |

It's time for another deck spotlight! Last time I highlighted an oracle deck, so I'm going with a tarot deck this time, and the deck I'm showing you is my much beloved Efflorescent Tarot. If you haven't heard of the Efflorescent Tarot, don't worry, you're not alone. I found the deck on Etsy after searching for tarot stuff on a whim, and I fell in love instantly. I think you can see why.

The illustrations of this deck, created by Peony Archer, drew me in immediately. They're based on the original Rider-Waite images, but they have a magic all their own. You can see how much love went into this deck, from the unique touches in the illustrations to the shading and coloring to the handwritten card titles. The Efflorescent Tarot is both familiar and strange, welcoming you into the unknown. Even the backs of the cards are mesmerizing. How do you not love a mystical mandala?

I didn't use this deck right away after I bought it. I actually didn't do my first reading with it until a couple weeks later. Then one day, when I reached for a deck to do my morning reading, this one called to me, called so loud my hand went to the deck before my mind had a chance to realize which deck I was choosing. That reading was incredible, not so much because of the answers I received but because of the energy I felt. This deck has an almost childlike energy, so pure and searching and beautiful. I always choose which deck to do a reading with intuitively, but sometimes it takes me a minute to decide. When this deck wants to be read, though, I know immediately. It's energy is so different from any other deck I own, and it always gives me incredible insights.

I adore this deck, but I almost didn't buy it. The card dimensions put me off. They're a little wider than standard tarot cards (similar to the Starchild Tarot), and I hadn't had any experiences with cards that size. Also I have small hands. The deck kept calling to me, though (I've already told you how loud it's energy is), and I gave in to that call. While it may have taken me a couple weeks to get comfortable with this deck, it's now one of my favorites, and it's the one I get the most compliments on. That's probably partly to do with the fact that everyone knows the Wild Unknown Tarot while no one knows the Efflorescent Tarot, but I think it also has to do with the fact that it really is a special deck. Even through social media, its images and energy are so powerful.

If you want your own version of the Efflorescent Tarot, you can pick one up on Etsy in color or in black and white.
